You must be aware that each entity has a special significance in a
temple. All inauspicious vibrations, all evil negativity has to be
warded off. The ringing of the bells helps that. Bell is rung during
Arati. It is not that the Lord is deaf. You are deaf. In south India,
they use big drums also. All these sounds are made to stun you. So that
you can concentrate on the deity.
