Sri Swamiji’s Discourse at Divine Life Society, Trinidad; 9th March 1990

"People say, 'Sadguru gives everything. If you see Sadguru, if you talk to Sadguru, if you touch Sadguru's feet, or if you chant Sadguru's name, He gives everything'. Of course, that is true. But you must also have some responsibility. You must do your duty. What is your duty. You must learn about yourself."

Sri Swamiji from God Word III

"In today's world, no nation can be totally independent of the other. Culture and attitudes of different countries will affect every other country. There is no country or group of people, which is not affected by this. In this era of mixed culture and thinking, it is Lord Dattatreya who can extend helping hand to us. Today's man, with the help of the so called scientific advancement, has polluted the earth, the sea and the space. Not only that, he has also polluted the inner environment of man by befouling behavior, speech and mind. This six-fold pollution has pushed mankind to the brim of annihilation. In such a dangerous situation, it is only Datta, the Lord with six arms, who can save us from the catastrophic end."

Appaji Words

"Don’t pray to God to punish your enemies. You have to pray that they should get good habits. Or, you can ask for strength to stand them. That is the right prayer. This is what is known as compassion "

Appaji Words

"Normally, we ask (God) for wealth, without deserving. We do not do Daana (charity). We want money for ourselves. But, Jnana (awareness) is much more important. We neglect and scoff at Jnana in Kali Yuga. This is Yugadharma indeed. We should seek wealth WITH Jnana, and then fulfillment takes place in life."

GANAPATI ASHRAM CONDOLES RV'S DEMISE

Mysore, Jan. 28- A meeting was held at Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Ashram here yesterday to condole the death of former President R. Venkataraman, who was closely associated with the Ashram and Avadootha Datta Peetham.

Venkataraman used to spend at least three months every year at the Ashram after his term of Presidentship ended. RV was actively involved in the religious ceremonies, homas, havanas and sermons held at the Ashram.

Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji said, "With the death of Venkataraman, the Peetham has lost a sincere and ardent devotee, besides losing an intellectual human resource who guided and advised the Ashram on various occasions. We never felt that Venkataraman was a former President, as he lived the life of an ordinary disciple."

The Swamiji said that Venkataraman would not disturb the guests staying in his room when he arrived at the Ashram.

"Don't disturb them. I will stay in an another room," he used to tell the ashram authorities.

Venkataraman had a room constructed in the Ashram for his stay and lived there like a common man.

He was one of the rare personalities from national scene who was deeply interested in the great spiritual and cultural heritage of India, the Swamiji said.
The Swamiji and his disciples observed silence to mourn the death of Venkataraman, who was also the Honorary Chairman of the Ashram.

During his tenure, the Ashram built Nada Mantapa, Datta Venkateshwara Temple and the 60-bed Ayurvedic Hospital.
